The school will be a coeducational boarding school of  500  students, grades 8-12, opening in September 2023, on a purpose-built campus in El Gouna, Red Sea, Egypt.

Position Overview:

The Founding Dean of Academics and Student Experience, who will report to the Head of the Academy, will have the unique opportunity to build, design and implement  a mission aligned academic and residential program. 

Responsibilities

Curriculum Design and Strategy Building: 

  • In collaboration with the Head of Academy, design, set up and execute an 8 - 12 Grade AP based curriculum,  encompassing the College Board requirements,  as well as a strong focus on the teaching of Arabic language, representing the successful merging of the American curriculum and the Egyptian cultural  identity of the school.  
  • Utilize best practices for project based learning in courses promoting the development of 21st century skills, and apply the NEASC ACE standards. 
  • Emphasize the boarding experience, building community and trust with the students and their families.
  • Create  course offerings, which demonstrate  innovation,  alignment between subject offerings, and the mission of the school as well as “differentiation”  to meet diverse student needs. 

Instructional/Faculty Management and Coaching: 

  • Work with the Director of People, Strategy and Culture to identify, recruit, and appoint academic heads of department, Dean of Residential Life and Faculty, and manage their orientation process.
  • Ensure that high impact teaching strategies are implemented across the school. 
  • Provide instructional coaching and mentorship as needed. 
  • Execute, provide, and organize faculty professional development and evaluate impact. 
  • Develop and lead faculty leadership roles within the boarding school setting. 
  • Develop and manage a “Faculty Associates” program for high potential novice faculty. 

Student Experience: 

  • Collaborate with the Director of Admissions and Marketing to identify, recruit, and enroll appropriate students.
  • Oversee the Registrar’s Office, and student placement as well as academic progress and achievement of the  student body. 
  • Communicate with parents and coordinate with advisors and faculty for specific, customized plans for individual student academic performance. 
  • Build the foundation for  a residential and co-curricular program which interfaces with the academic offerings,  to shape the holistic experience positively impacting student growth.  
  • Build the foundation strategy, which will be continued and executed by the dean(s) of student life which will shape the student body culture, success and wellness, grounded in ELA’s mission.
  • Work with the relevant deans and team members, to develop a strong sense of community among all students of the school and their families. 

Administrative:

  • Prepare appropriate reports for the Head of Academy.
  • Work with the Director of Finance to develop and deliver all relevant program related budgets and educational  IT strategies and platforms. 
  • Lead and/or participate in accreditation related processes. 
  • Lead and participate in local and international educational events. 

Other: 

  • Work effectively and collaboratively with the ELA founding Leadership Team on strategies and initiatives.  
  • Under the guidance of the Head of Academy, interact with the Board of Trustees in relevant meetings and committees. 
  • Be visibly engaged within the school and local community  as a champion of students and their growth as young adults. 
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Head of Academy.


Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • A master’s  degree in a relevant field. 
  • A minimum of 15 years of working experience (including teaching and working in a boarding school). 
  • Experience/familiarity working in an Arabic speaking culture is a plus. 
  • Adaptability and resilience, in addition to a generous cross cultural outlook. 
  • Proven leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, passionately and joyfully, while collaborating effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to generate innovative solutions and strategies.
  • A commitment to creating an enriching boarding school environment for students. 
  • An understanding of technology and ability to use it effectively.
  • Adequate financial acumen. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • The successful candidate will be appointed by March, 2022 and will begin work on July 1, 2022 in El Gouna.  The school will open in September 2023.
