- Head of Redox Biology
Description
Quantum biology unlocks a fundamentally new way to actuate on biology. The Quantum Biology Institute is a non-profit that conducts basic research, releasing all of it openly to help build the foundation of the field. Following our publicly available scientific roadmap, we seek to unambiguously refute or establish the existence of a quantum-to-biology link.
The Quantum Biology Institute is seeking an accomplished scientist to develop the research direction for the institute with respect to redox biology and bioenergetics, in collaboration with our existing scientific team. Our research explores how magnetosensitivity in biology, a putative quantum effect, emerges from interactions between weak magnetic fields and proteins as well as reactive species.
To complement our work on magnetosensitive proteins, we are looking for a leader with deep expertise in redox pathways and cellular metabolism.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive research on redox biology, metabolism, and their connections to magnetosensitivity
- Work together with the Head of Biochemistry to dissect the relative contributions of proteins and reactive species to magnetosensitivity
- Design and execute experiments using advanced instrumentation and redox sensors
Requirements
Required Expertise
- Experimental techniques to probe the kinetics of ROS formation and decay, electron transfer reactions, and antioxidant mechanisms
- High-resolution respirometry systems (e.g., Oroboros, Seahorse);
- State-of-the-art redox sensors (e.g., HyPer)
- Track record working with model systems such as E. coli, yeast, or mammalian cells
This role is on-site at the Institute's lab in Los Angeles, USA.
